Tůma targeting regular final appearances in ‘much more competitive’ Euro RX3 field

After entering three rounds of Euro RX3 last year, Václav Tůma has set his sights on reaching the final as often as possible in what he describes as a ‘much more competitive’ field in the category in 2026.

Following in a family tradition – his father was similarly a rallycross racer – Tůma joined the European Championship for the first time last season off the back of a successful formative career on the domestic scene, which notably yielded the Czech Rallycross Cup’s National 1600 class laurels in 2019.

Participating in the opening three outings of the Euro RX3 campaign, he advanced to the final at both Höljes and Nyirád – taking the chequered flag fourth in Hungary, where he missed out on the podium by barely a second after executing a stellar opening lap.

Buoyed by those promising performances, the 20-year-old has signed up to contest a full season in 2026 behind the wheel of his Škoda Fabia. Fifteen drivers will line up for the curtain-raising contest in Rīga next month (9-10 May) – many of them, like himself, rising stars of the dual-surface discipline – and Tůma is eager to see how he compares.

“Rīga is a very demanding circuit that doesn’t forgive mistakes,” mused the České Budějovice-born ace, who has recent experience around the historic Biķernieku trase. “It’s all about precision and clean racing lines – I’m really looking forward to it.

“Nyirád is also very attractive, particularly because of its proximity for Czech fans. Last year, a podium was within reach, and thanks to the kilometres we’ve completed there, including regional races, I believe it will be our best opportunity to fight for a top result.

“I’m hoping for better weather at Höljes than we had last year, while the two tracks I haven’t previously driven will be a big challenge. Lohéac has an incredible atmosphere, which I’ve experienced several times as a spectator, and having been off the calendar for so long, Mondello Park will be interesting for everyone...

“We entered last season with a significantly revised car and those changes proved to be successful, so there was no need for any major modifications over the winter. We mainly checked the engine and suspension, while also working on the bodywork. The field will be much more competitive this year, so the goal will be to reach the finals. Anything beyond that will be a bonus.”

Following the opening round of the campaign in the Latvian capital, protagonists will go on to lock horns at Nyirád in Hungary (30-31 May), Höljes in Sweden (4-5 July), Mondello Park in Ireland (18-19 July), Lohéac in France (29-30 August) and finally Lousada in Portugal, where the 2026 Euro RX champions will be crowned on 12-13 September.
